If it was recorded in stereo, then sometimes you can get an improvement by reversing the phase of one track, then mixing the two tracks onto a single mono track, so that most of the background cancels out (but unfortunately, if the speaker was on-axis, it will cancel him out too). 3.) Then Change the Frequency Range into Male (If the singer is a Male) or Female (If the Singer is a Female) Note: If the Singers are both Male and Female, Pick the one who has more vocals than the other. 2.) Go to Effects->Stereo Imagery->Center Channel Extractor. There are some other tricks, depending on how the recording was made: if the guy was speaking into the microphone (as opposed to you recording from within the audience) then his voice will be louder than the background, and you can use a compander to expand the dynamic range, so that the background gets quieter and the speaker gets louder, and you can use a noise gate to remove the background in the gaps where he isn’t speaking. 1.) Open the Adobe Audition CS5.5 (Of course.) then put the song. You can do a bit with EQ, but the way I would try it first is the opposite to what others have suggested - the background noise is likely to be very wide spectrum, so instead of trying to notch that out, I would use a peak filter to boost the frequencies of the speakers voice. There is no quick and easy way, you won’t ever get rid of the background completely, the best you can hope for is to make it a bit less intrusive, and because the two signals are so similar, whatever filters and effects you use will need very fine adjustment and a lot of fiddling about to get it right.
